Installing Maemo SDK for Nokia 770 and Nokia Gizmo

Maemo is an opensource development platform for handheld devices based on Linux. Currently it is the basic operating system that is installed on Nokia 770 and 800 , but could theoretically be used (with few changes) from other similar devices.

The SDK provides (in addition to the compiler and libraries) a real environment that emulates the handheld device end, so as to allow the developer to test and debug both programs running at the command line, and those visuals.

The graphical environment is based on a real X server a window manager and GTK + libraries with a particular extension called Hildon .

By Maemo SDK, you can:

  • test applications written for Maemo, using a standard PC with Linux.
  • Write and debug applications written by us.
  • to port existing applications written for Linux / GTK + and test it.
  • Compile and prepare packets for the Armel platform so that they are installed on the end device.
The complete howto is available on the wiki PtLUG .
